Giorgio Armani continues to play up the nautical trend we’ve seen prominently for a few seasons now. The Armani Collezioni Resort 2011 collection was heavy on both navy colored looks and pinstriped ones, each of which found their way into everything from casual two piece day suits to flowing chiffon gowns.
While usually associate Armani with crisp suits and flowing couture ball gowns, his 2011 Resort collection was all about a laid-back casual look. Perhaps the designer is finding himself increasingly influenced by sportswear, given his recent collaboration with Reebok. Extra wide-leg trousers, puffy cropped jackets, Bermuda shorts, texture-focused monochromatic dresses, loose fitting tops, and flirty floral skirts all had an easy-to-wear, no frills feel to them.
This collection had a younger feel to it, which tied more into the sportier feel of the nautical collection than it did with anything having to do with skin-baring, low-cut looks, of which there were very few.
While it’s usually the intricate, glamorous collections that are the most fun, it’s nice to see that Armani is giving women versatile options that they can wear during the day, as well as easy nighttime looks. After all, when things get hot and humid, who really wants to put on a beaded silk gown?
