It’s hard to believe that a year ago, Fashion’s Night Out was being billed as a one-time, one-night event. Scheduled for Fall 2010, the now-annual event seems to be growing in scale every week. Spearheaded by Vogue’s Anna Wintour and New York’s Major Michael Bloomberg, the event this year will include a full blown clothing line with FNO-emblazoned merchandise, a one hour CBS special, and a huge runway show taking place in New York City with over 200 top models, and space for 1,500 random ticket-holders. Now comes news that the one night affair will turn into a six night run of events, spread across the globe.
While Fashion’s Night Out also took place on a global scale last year, all of the events occurred on the same night. This year, beginning on September 7th in France, Fashion’s Night Out will stretch until September 16th, closing in Greece and Turkey. Thirteen other countries will also participate, led by their corresponding international editions of Vogue. The hope is to maximize sales by spreading the events over multiple days.
As an example of what’s in the works to help amp shoppers up, Vogue India’s editor, Priya Tanna said that she and her team will begin “aggressive promotion of the night, beginning with the July issue.” They’re already coordinating radio and TV tie-ins, and will be launching a web site in June.
