After much back and forth these last few months Peter Som, the creative director of Bill Blass women’s wear, has finally decided to part ways with Bill Blass.
There have been talks tracing back to July regarding Som leaving the iconic brand most notably after the house’s parent company, NexCen Brands Inc., canceled the Bill Blass spring 2009 runway show opting to show instead only to retailers.
Som has been quoted as saying that this was an extremely difficult decision for him, but that he thinks it best to focus on his own namesake collection and the development of the Peter Som brand.
However, it is being reported that financial difficulties were at the root of the problem as key vendors and staffers weren’t being paid. Exacerbated the payment issues NexCen “knew very little about how to run a luxury brand, much less re-brand one,” an industry source familiar to the NexCen operation told WWD.
