Jesinta Campbell teased TODAY viewers with “huge news” this morning, but the 24-year-old model isn’t secretly married or pregnant as some would quickly expect.
The former Miss Universe Australia instead announced that she is now officially an ambassador for major department store David Jones, something that has always been “a massive career goal” of hers.
“I grew up watching Megan Gale on the catwalk then Miranda Kerr and obviously Jessica Gomes and now I’m going to be joining them as an ambassador, so it’s a very big highlight for me and I’m very excited,” she explained on air.
The Queensland-native was previously recognised as a “friend” of David Jones after featuring in the department store’s Spring 2015 campaign and runway. With so much hoo-ha over Campbell’s David Jones catwalk debut and, of course, her cheese-gratable abs, it really was only a matter of time, but could this be a stepping stone to eventually taking over Gomes’ role as the face of the retail giant?
Last June, Campbell said that “it would be a dream come true” to follow the footsteps of Gale, Kerr and Gomes by fronting David Jones, with her manager, Sharon Finnigan, also hinting that the covetable role is the end goal. “It’s what you work towards, it’s one of the goals you set out for,” she explained.
With news of Gomes splitting from Chic Management in September 2015 with a new-found focus on acting, we wouldn’t be surprised if David Jones is priming Campbell for a takeover.
